Gabriele Burgio, born in Florence, in1954, he graduated in law in Florence, specializing in International Private Law. In 1982 he completed his MBA at the Insead in Fontainebleau.
He began his professional career at Bankers Trust, working between Italy and New York. He later became CEO of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Finanziaria, a corporate finance venture specializing in M&As and acquisition finance.
In 1993 the CIR Group appointed him CEO in the subsidiary Cofir, a successful holding listed on the Spanish stock exchange and operating in Spain and Portugal with a philosophy similar to that of a private equity fund. Gabriele Burgio moved to Spain.
From 1997 to 2011 he held the position of CEO of NH Hotels, initially a small local Spanish company specializing in 3- and 4-star hotels in Spain. Under his leadership, NH Hotels grew rapidly, expanding into 25 countries and increasing the number of hotels from the original 66 to 401. The multinational now has over 16,000 employees and has multiplied its turnover by 13.
Since May 2012 Gabriele Burgio has been president and CEO of Alpitour S.p.A.
Under his presidency, the Group began a process of renewal and reorganization which led, in 2014, to the acquisition of Press Tours (tour operator specialized in the Caribbean area and the American continent) and, in 2016, to entry into Swan Tour with a share of 49%.
In 2002 he won the Tiepolo award and in 2003 the "Manager of the year in Spain" award. In 2007 His Royal Highness Felipe II awarded Gabriel the "Excellence in Tourism" award. In 2010 the Italian Government awarded Gabriele Burgio the title of "Grande Ufficiale della Stella".
